S.W.A.L.O.S.
S.W.A.L.O.S. At school, S.W.A.L.O.S. was a take on S.W.A.L.K. – Sealed With A Loving Kiss. S.W.A.L.O.S. stood for Sealed With A Load Of Spunk. I went to an all boys’ boarding school; dormitories were spunk factories! Pubescent boys had too much time and very little to do in a boarding school. We were only allowed to leave the school premises to go into town on Saturday mornings, to go to church on Sunday mornings and to for a walk on Sunday afternoons. We all tried to develop relationships by writing letters; I managed to befriend a French girl, Guylaine. And when I say befriend, I mean she replied to a few of my letters sent to her. At the time, I felt our relationship deepened when S.W.A.L.K. was written on the envelope of our letters and became consummated when I wrote S.W.A.L.O.S. on the envelope. Have you ever written S.W.A.L.K., or something similar, on an envelope of a love letter? Did you or do you write love letters? How did you court when you were a ? Writing an acronym on an envelope became very popular during the Second World War. As well as S.W.A.L.K., other acronyms used were: • BURMA - Be Undressed/Upstairs Ready My Angel • CAPSTAN - Can A Prick Stand Twice A Night • CHINA - Come Home I'm Naked Already • CHIP - Come Home I'm Pregnant • EGYPT - Eager to Grab Your Pretty Tits • ENGLAND - Every Naked Girl Loves A Naked Dick • FRANCE - Friendship Remains And Never Can End • HOLLAND - Hope Our Love Lasts And Never Dies • ITALY – I Trust And Love You • MALAYA – My Ardent Lips Await Tour Arrival • NORWICH – Nickers Off Ready When I Come Home • PMPDSOF - Please Mr Postman Don’t Stumble Or Fall These acronyms were the forerunners of text speak – LOL! |
