Does Religion Really Matter?

There was a couple that we were chatting with last night that seemed to be on the same page as us in the lifestyle. Then they asked about our religious views - you may notice under religion we have "Not applicable". We kept things simple and explained that we do not follow any organized religion.

"Wait - you're not Christian?" Was their next question. We further explained that we do not follow a Christian path.

"We only meet with Christians!" was their next comment and they left the conversation and blocked us.

There's a massive contradiction here. The lifestyle breaks at least a couple of the commandments - Thou shall not covet thy<b> neighbors </font></b>wife, and Thou shall not commit adultery. Yeah, even consensual intra-marriage sex is adultery.

So if we're all going to hell anyway - what does our religious view have to do with anything in the lifestyle?

 I'm an atheist and I recognize that the majority of the people that I meet will be religious to some extent. It only becomes an issue with me if it is an issue with them.
Please don't let me be misunderstood.
