messenger a complete pain in the ass!

least ten years ago i first found this site, and how much fun i had, was great fun, as a standard member i could contact anyone on messenger and read emails people sent me.
fast forward to the present and now they have restricted messenger to just 5 a day... ermm ok that kinda sucks as far as im concerned, but the fact is it doesnt bloody work half the time.
not to mention now you cant read emails either...i know why they made the changes to try and force you to upgrade your membership, but i think by restricting everything so much it actually drives away people like myself who would upgrade.
what are your thoughts on this?
also if you were a standard member and upgraded did you find your experience on messenger improved?
